A bit about the show...

"Anything Goes," a classic musical comedy by Cole Porter, is set aboard the S.S. American as it sails from New York to London. The plot revolves around Billy Crocker, a young man who stows away to pursue heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to the stuffy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer, and "Public Enemy #13," Moonface Martin, help Billy in his quest, leading to mistaken identities, disguises, and a series of madcap antics. Ultimately, the romantic entanglements are resolved, with Billy and Hope, and Reno and Evelyn finding love with each other.

Anything Goes premiered on Broadway on November 21, 1934 at the Alvin Theatre, where it ran for 420 performances, becoming the fourth longest-running musical of the 1930s. A revised version of the show opened off-Broadway at the Orpheum Theatre on May 15, 1962, starring Eileen Rodgers as Reno Sweeney and Hal Linden as Billy Crocker. In 1987, Lincoln Center Theater produced an updated version of the show. Opening at Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theater on October 19, 1987, the show starred Patti LuPone, Howard McGillin and Bill McCutcheon, won the Tony Award for Best Revival, and played for 784 performances.

In 2011, the Beaumont version was revived at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway, starring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. Once again, Anything Goes won the Tony for Best Musical Revival, and the production ran for 521 performances.

Our relationship with Jeff Hinderscheid as our Artistic Theater Director started with a bang as it was supported by the amazing work seen in Something Rotten, and we could not be more excited for the future of our theater programming. Jeff is working with our Theater Chair, Jamie Jones, to bring more theater to South Monterey County students and community members, and will be working with the Theater Committee to announce the upcoming productions in the very near future!
